A Brown Rug, Plain or Bearskin, is a Solid Choice

A brown rug may not be the most exciting home furnishing you can think of but this old standby is as reliable a floor rug as it ever was. Brown rugs fit in well with almost any other combination of colors you may choose to use in your home. It is really hard to find a color that will clash with brown. In this sense, a plain brown rug is very much like a grey rug, it works well to compliment almost design scheme in a subtle, unobtrusive way. A dark brown rug will fit in as well on a red tile floor as it will on a lightly stained wooden floor. The only place you wouldn’t normally want to use a solid brown rug would be atop a similarly stained wooden floor. For example, a dark brown rug would complement the color of a lightly stained floor while contrasting with the shade of brown found in the wood. Similarly, a light brown rug would complement the color of a darkly stained wooden floor while offering an attractive contrast to the tone of the wood. It is only when you lay a brown rug down atop a matching brown floor that the rug fades into obscurity and offers no real decoration. Then again, if you use a brown rug with an attractive design, or a contrasting border color, you may very well be able to use a brown that matches that of your floor so that the field of the rug recedes from notice into the floor while the design is left to stand out on its own even more.

Perhaps the most common and obvious advantage of a brown rug is that it will easily hide most minor stains and dirt. This makes brown rugs a solid choice for high traffic areas and areas which you expect to encounter a high volume of foot traffic coming from outside. A brown rug at your front door, kitchen door, or on your living room floor will look well with only minimal maintenance whereas a white rug in such a location would have to be cleaned almost constantly to maintain its appearance. This makes brow rugs and equally smart choice for use in your children’s rooms. In this case, you might want to look for a way to make your child’s brown rug a little more exciting and the classic way to do this is with a bearskin rug. A brown bearskin rug will not only stand up to any abuse your child has to offer but it will also impart a sense of excitement and adventure to the atmosphere of their room. What kid wouldn’t love a brown bear rug on their floor?

So while it may not be as colorful as a teal rug or a purple rug, a brown rug can still make an important contribution to your home’s decoration. A brown rug will stand up to heavy foot traffic better than a rug of any other color and its muted color will harmonize with any interior design plan from rustic to contemporary. Whether you plan to use it on your cabin floor or beneath your glass and chrome coffee table, your brown rug will serve you well for years to come.
