Floor Rugs for Your Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen or Bathroom
Floor rugs can be used to serve many purposes. They can cover hard or cold floors, or even cover stains that have seeped in to a granite or hardwood floor. Rugs can go on any surface, and can be used on any floor in any room. Floor rugs can be used to solve flooring problems in virtually any area of a home for far less than the cost of replacing or repairing the flooring itself.
Living Room Floor Rugs
The living room is probably the most frequently used room in a house, and it gets the most traffic. To protect high traffic areas, carpet padding should be used underneath rugs and carpets placed in the most used paths. Area rugs can be used to break a living room into different areas, such as an area for watching television and an area for children to play. Smaller rugs can be placed under chairs to protect the flooring from feet and casters.
Bathroom Floor Rugs
There are rugs that are specially designed for bathrooms. Often, they can be purchased as a set. They make bath mats designed for catching water as someone steps out of a tub or shower, contoured rugs to fit the space directly in front of the toilet, and rugs to stand on while a person stands in front of the mirror or sink. If the bathroom has an area for a vanity table, you could also place a bathroom floor rug under the seat to prevent damage to the floor underneath.
Kitchen Floor Rugs
A kitchen is intended for standing and walking. Ironically, it also has a very hard floor that can be hard on feet and backs after a while. By placing rugs with extra padding in places that involve long periods of standing, like in front of the stove and sink, the stress on the feet and back can be relieved. Another option for a kitchen floor rug, especially in a galley kitchen, is a carpet runner that will run the full length of the kitchen. Or you can use themed decorative rugs, such as rooster rugs, to give your kitchen a clearly defined style.
Dining Room Floor Rugs
Dining rooms are prone to scratched floors, spilled food and drink and limited spaces to bring color into the room. Polypropylene rugs are an excellent choice for dining rooms because they are inexpensive, even in larger sizes, and are available in oriental and Persian styles that would normally cost far more, too much to risk seeing them damaged by spills. Covering a bare floor in the dining room with a colored or patterned floor covering can bring color into the room and brighten rooms with dark floors. Rugs can also be effective at catching spills and can be removed easily for cleaning. As with any room, Floor rugs will protect a floor from scratches from dining chairs, also.
Rugs serve many purposes and can be used in almost any room. They can be placed on carpeting, hard wood, tile, vinyl or concrete. They are decorative, protective and purposeful. Using floor rugs in a home can be a simple solution to a number of flooring problems that may be costly or laborious to repair otherwise.
