Large Rugs for Living Rooms and Dining Rooms
Large rugs are a great way to liven up any large room. Large room rugs add instant warmth and color in a way that no other home furnishing can. It really does not matter what kind of flooring the room already has. Whether your present flooring surface is carpet, wood, tiles or marble, large rugs can instantly add a lot of color and style. A 9×12 area rug placed in the center of the room, or added underneath a couch or dining set, can transform the look of your living room or dining room.
Living room rugs are often set in the middle of the room, where they tend to become the focal point of the room’s overall appearance. One of the main advantages of adding large rugs to a room is that they can instantly bring together the existing decorative elements of a room or add a lift to an otherwise dull setting. For this reason, it is important, when choosing a living room rug, to ensure that it complements the other decorative items already present. This can usually be accomplished by simply matching the colors of the rug to the colors of existing decorative elements in the room. If you cannot find a large rug to match the other items in the room, you may benefit from incorporating complementary or tastefully contrasting colors in order to achieve stylistic symmetry. The great thing about large area rugs, particularly those that are patterned or multi-colored is that you can choose which color should be predominant in the room.
Dining rooms can be somewhat lacking in decoration at times. While many people pay great attention to decorating their living rooms and even their bedrooms, dining rooms are often left unadorned. While the main foci of a dining room are usually the table setting and overhead lighting, you can add a splash of color to your dining room and give it the edge that pushes it from being a standard dining room into another wonderfully decorated room in your home, by adding a large rug. Often what is most lacking in dining room’s appearance is color. This is where dining room rugs can make a difference. You can add a large oval dining room rug underneath the table setting, and then scatter other accent rugs around the room. Perhaps you might also consider adding some wall hangings with matching colors and a nice vase of colored flowers on the sideboard. If you do, you will find that your dining room is easily transformed.
As you can see, large rugs are very useful as a component of your rooms’ decoration. Patterns and colors can be matched with existing furniture, decorative items and wall hangings to create consistency of style and an overall theme to your home’s decoration. With just a few small changes you can use a few large rugs to bring a formerly boring or staid room to life.
